@@bruceang82 That's cooled my heels a little Bruce then. I wonder how just a normal punter, someone without your skills and workshop would end up if they were to buy one? It really is such a beautiful engine.

@@BlueHeelersSteamEngines-Jim I believe most people would have wanted their money back, (he didnt give me that option) it was sent out with 4 mis drilled holes in the top of one of the cylinder chests, had to tap & plug all 4, the timing was miles off & one of the oilers was drilled at an angle & not in line with the rest. owner blamed it on his father, it was obviously never checked before shipping. i wouldn't buy from him again...you better know how to work on his products!

Many 1st, the timing was way off, second ,they had drilled 4 holes in the top of the cylinder head...in the wrong place & just left them open, I had to tap and plug each one as it would not run on less than 20 psi(after the timing was set) .3rd, they tapped & mounted the oiler at an odd angle and not in line with the other oilers (couldn't fix that),seems like there was 1 more thing, but it escapes me now. It took me 4 hrs to repair. Their quality control is non-existent, he blamed it all on his Dad. For a $700 purchase, I was plenty mad !

Nice, rare little engine. the solder can be removed & the sight glass block & tubes replaced.

No need for one, I have it bumping against the S/V anyways. 👍

Yes, that would be more efficient, but the point is to replicate a miniature of something used here in the US & shown in most local Steam shows.

This is a Baker Fan. It is basically the predecessor to a Dynamo. It would put a constant load on the steam traction engines in order to set the steam govenor to the right RPM.

load test. They were originally developed by the AD Baker company, to show how powerful their traction engines were. There's lots of videos of full size ones, and models like this.

@@Steam_City thanks! By the "baker" name I thought it was meant to be some sort of very inefficient fan for helping (true) bakers make bread or what do I know... Hehehe The more I know!!!

I tried, but just not enough traction/force , to do it, not even with Balsa wood.
