I have all the issues addressed, 4 misplaced holes in top of cylinder left open, timing way out, 1 stanchion bore out of line. I have 5 hours of work in this to make it run this good now.

CME 6" 1 1/2" X 8 tpi lathe chuck, South Bend lathe. it looks huge on my little lathe. I totally tore it apart (per blondihacks) trammed in the scroll with he 3 pinions only using the chuck key mounted in the old chuck on my lathe, This did help free it up some. cleaning out the old grease and re:oiling also helps. it was in 2k either way on the scale, which is OK by me for the price I paid.
Orphan Jensen #20 live steam engine

I just received this a few hours ago & thought I would give er' a go, it was "VERY" stiff, but with some oiling & a few hand rotations she freed right up like a Jensen steamer would. it's a very nice runner !
model hit & miss engine powering a 1" scale Baker fan
Переглядів 7483 місяці тому
I did some fine tuning on the Baker fan by reaming out the Brass bearing blocks & cleaning up the axle quite a bit, this improved the smoothness many times over & I am very satisfied with its performance now.

Hand crafted railroad tram/cart ? model steam #1

I really don't know what this is exactly folks, I could really use some help in this department. it would appear that the handles would propel it when moved back & forth. it is so fragile & in bad condition that I would probably need to build an entire new frame for it, & even if I do I'm still not sure what I would have. any hepl fellow steamer/railroad people ?
Hand crafted horse drawn "sweep" model tool
Переглядів 673 місяці тому
I now know what this model is, it's called a "sweep" meant to be powered by horse(s) moving about in a continuous circle, generally hooked via a very low-slung drive shaft connected to a tool outside of the horse's path. it is 4 1/2" sq x 3" tall & weighs 1 lb. 10 oz. & has a 14" long swing arm.

Hello folks here we have a single log splitter model steam engine tool. it is 9 1/2" tall, 4 1/4" wide & 7 1/2" long at the base, it's a bit top heavy & I'm considering mounting it to a larger base. its about 3 lbs in weight. it has 2 axles with home made pulleys & 4 oilers in 4 brass axle block supports. I didnt build this but did do quite a bit to make it function like you see it now. frame i...

Just got one!!
Very nice! I like the yellow and white bedding
Nolan says this is sick! 🙂 Cool
I have a Stuart Turner # 1 with reversing gear for sale.
Bruce what an elegant and just beautiful engine this is mate!
Thx Jim, it certainly didnt come to me as a good runner, had to spend 5 hrs. getting it made right (brand new)
@@bruceang82 That's cooled my heels a little Bruce then. I wonder how just a normal punter, someone without your skills and workshop would end up if they were to buy one? It really is such a beautiful engine.
@@BlueHeelersSteamEngines-Jim I believe most people would have wanted their money back, (he didnt give me that option) it was sent out with 4 mis drilled holes in the top of one of the cylinder chests, had to tap & plug all 4, the timing was miles off & one of the oilers was drilled at an angle & not in line with the rest. owner blamed it on his father, it was obviously never checked before shipping. i wouldn't buy from him again...you better know how to work on his products!
@@bruceang82 Thanks for the heads up, might look great but that's a hard pass for me now Bruce.
cool toy
Put your finger under
Hi. Wondering what immersion heater you used for this? All I can find are 1/2" in diameter. Thanks!
Nice machine, looks good. No seat for the driver.
Nice!
Hi - how can I contact you privately?
Join " office of steam forum " send me a PM , my sign on name is St. Paul Steam. Cheers, Bruce
What issues did you have?
Many 1st, the timing was way off, second ,they had drilled 4 holes in the top of the cylinder head...in the wrong place & just left them open, I had to tap and plug each one as it would not run on less than 20 psi(after the timing was set) .3rd, they tapped & mounted the oiler at an odd angle and not in line with the other oilers (couldn't fix that),seems like there was 1 more thing, but it escapes me now. It took me 4 hrs to repair. Their quality control is non-existent, he blamed it all on his Dad. For a $700 purchase, I was plenty mad !
Beautiful
Great looking engine
I’ve got one of these. Slightly different. Riveted tank but nickel finish. Blue heavy wheel but the base is black with decal still present. Sight glass was missing when I got it but they soldered the holes. That sight glass is different than later models with smaller fittings. Mine ran wonderfully as soon as I plugged it in.
Nice, rare little engine. the solder can be removed & the sight glass block & tubes replaced.
powerful
Gorgeous machine! Would love to have one, but sadly, Jim passed away last Fall and at least for the foreseeable future, these are no longer available.
if it had a servo gas regulator, you could increase the power if necessary if there is enough pressure in the boiler
No need for one, I have it bumping against the S/V anyways. 👍
Very impressive buddy
Thanks Dallas, this one fought right off the get go with lots of defects, but we got them all sorted out.
Nice and shiny!
thank "Ian & Nolan show" miss your content.
You are always running smooth!
It is a beautiful looking engine.
Get some oil on those bearing! Does it have a tachometer?
❤️👍
Fantastic! So smooth at such a low pressure … 😎
Hello Bruce. I almost bid on that 20! I got a nice old #55 like that a while back. Your going to do something cool with it I’m sure👍
Thx Tim
I love #20 engines. Great video Bruce.
Great work but don't you think the spliter should be running SLOWER.
of course, I mention that in the video, but the hit N' miss will only go so slooooow....
I think it would be more eficient if you make a turbine in the place of the fan so that you can concentrate the wind, but still that design is awesome!
Yes, that would be more efficient, but the point is to replicate a miniature of something used here in the US & shown in most local Steam shows.
This is a Baker Fan. It is basically the predecessor to a Dynamo. It would put a constant load on the steam traction engines in order to set the steam govenor to the right RPM.
@@Musicalmane i didn't knew that, awesome!
I like the scale mount of the Hit and Miss Engine. Many greetings from Germany.
Thank you. I hope to visit your country someday.
nice job
Thank you, just having fun 😁
I personally feel it would be nice to steam her now and again. Air isn’t the same. There is a certain lifeforce that comes to an engine when she is steamed when the four elements come together - fire, water, earth, air.
Boy that thing really flies when you open her up ! On the contrary, also a nice slow runner when n voltage is dialled down. Another great engine mod Bruce 😊
Beautiful
This is VERY COOL!!!!!!!!!
Promo>SM
Is it some sort of automaton? the large lead weight inside the head and the two ends moving up and down?
I'm not really sure ,you could be on to something.
Definitely got yourself a new subscriber here, awesome looking shop
Thx & welcome aboard.
Nice work!
Is this some kind of regulator or a mere load to test engines? Thanks :)
load test. They were originally developed by the AD Baker company, to show how powerful their traction engines were. There's lots of videos of full size ones, and models like this.
@@Steam_City thanks! By the "baker" name I thought it was meant to be some sort of very inefficient fan for helping (true) bakers make bread or what do I know... Hehehe The more I know!!!
Really cool but can it split some small wood?
I tried, but just not enough traction/force , to do it, not even with Balsa wood.
@@bruceang82 Oh ok, but still very cool.
Very cool Bruce
Amsterdam ❤it
Very cool.
Beautiful ! Excellent work man ship. Coolspring Power Museum has a full size original Hildreth splitter that looks like yours.
Thank you, Sir, I would imagine mine was copied from something like what you described.
It should be a whim or horse capstan - a device similar to a windlass which is used in mining for hauling materials to the surface.
thank you...
A nice combination - your Stuart beam engine and the Baker fan! 😎
Hello, well done, what remarkable work.
Thx 😊
